Float through the Delta by mokoro at dawn
Why the slowest way to move through the Delta is the one people remember.
By the Cawejo team
A mokoro is a narrow dugout-style canoe, guided by a poler who stands at the back and pushes through the channels with a long pole. There is no engine and no noise, just water, reeds and birdsong.
Early morning is the best time to go. The air is cool, the water is still, and reed frogs and kingfishers are at their busiest. Polers know the channels well and read the water for signs of hippos and elephants, keeping a respectful distance.
Most Delta camps that sit on permanent water include mokoro outings, and many guests say it is the highlight of their trip. It pairs well with a scenic flight on your last morning, so you see the same channels from above.
